i was wondering how hard it is to put the battery in the trunk could someone that knows send me directions and or pics of how it is done. also would i benfit anything from this.[confused] [dunno]

When I did mine i put it where the spare tire used to be to get it as low as possible. Use good thick cable with many small diameter strands. Make sure you ground the engine to the body. I figure it has to improve cornering even though it might not be very noticable. I like the battery out of the way so things are easier to work on and it gives you more room to get creative with your air intake. It's a time consuming job, it took me probably 6-8 hrs.

sweet did u have to do a lot of drilling cause i was going to take out the system i have and use the path the power wire was taking and mount it on the left side of the trunk. what about the negative ground it somewhere in the trunk or back to the front.

For the negative i just drilled a hole about 18 inches from the battery on the side of the well. [so the body of the car acts as the negative] The only other drilling i did was to put the cable thru the firewall.

I was wondering if there'd be a smell in the car from the lead acid battery but i haven't noticed anything, btw.

www.summitracing.com sells battery relocation kits starting around $80 which isnt a bad deal, if you do just make sure you vent the battery outside the car, if you dont the battery could possibly overheat and create a potential fire.

relocated mine to the back, right behind the passenger side back seat...i drilled through the side of the car where the wheel well is in the back and sent the cable down there and under the car up to the front...works flawlessly and didnt have to route any big cables through the firewall

I'm thinking more safety myself. The battery is on the outside of the car for ventilation. The inside temps of a car on a hot day can be deadly. Now in racing, batterys are in the trunk but I always removed it when not racing.I cant see a reason for general everyday use for it to be in the interior. The fumes are toxic and the chance for explosion probably greater. Now if on a hot day you leave your window down it might fly.I wouldnt trust it though.

yes i know the battery could need to vent by why do some family gm vehicles have the battery under the back seat. has anyone put or seen the battery placed behind the left febder.

i dont think a dry cell battery would have to vent. as for temps. dont forget it's probably the same underhood. even hotter when running.

BMW puts their batteries inside the car too, or at least used to. What if you were to do a swap to an Optima battery? Do these batteries require the safety precautions of OEM batteries? I know that they are dry-cell batteries and claim to be able to mount in any direction (upside down or sideways).

um you guys might really wanna get the relocation kit with the breather hose that goes through the floor of the trunk , those fumes are toxic. just an FYI

yes you can. they are basicly a gigantic AA battery that is rechargeable.

ih and the best wires i've seen are welding grounding cables. they flow like crazy. ans that is what i'm planning on using for my mains. as for the rest of the big 3 it's 0 gauge amp powerwire
