I have a 03 svt and i am thinking about putting nitrous on it i need some insight on it i am going to go with NX Expresss 30 50 75 shot will it hurt my motor and is it a good idea is it a good boost in hp

Well N20 is always a bad idea. It will hurt the motor long term. And it only lasts for about 10 seconds. There are many more long term power adders, such as turbo charging and supercharging. But they are costly. Not quite as costly as replacing a blown motor for nitrous use.

But there are many more simple and direct ways of bosting power with out hurting the engine. If you are gonna spend 500 bucks on a nitrous kit, you might aswell use that towards an exhuast or intake which will give u some power, but it will be there all the time and you will feel it.

if you have more questions about a turbo or supercharging do ask.

While I think logan makes a few good points, I have also heard of a good amount of people who have been using it and havent had any issues. Most people will use a 50 on a stock tune just fine and have had no issues. You just have to make sure you set it up right and dont cheap out on the kit.

There was a magazine article somewhere that told you how to build the safest kit possible...in fact someone, a month or two ago, just sold that kit.

I agree that it's not there all the time, on demand. But if you just want it for a short burst here or there then go for it. otherwise you are looking at paying 3-4k for a turbo or sc, then tuning and installing and also a new clutch. Remember turbos/sc aren't failproof either. There are people who have screwed their cars up just fine with a turbo or supercharger. I know one personally who blew his engine with a powerworks.

Its all in the way you set it up....dont cheap out and edjumikate yourself as best as possible before pulling the trigger.

Personally, I don't like Nitrous, it's risky and a lot of racers won't race if you're spraying, unless you go with a hidden system, but if you want some good info on n2o, here it is http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11534, if you can't find what you need in that thread, you should probably rethink the whole thing

LOGAN you don't know what you're talking about!! i'm sorry. there's some misinformation in this thread about nitrous.

project2point and sleestak are the only 2 that posted with some correct information

i'm at work...busy...will post later...

to the original poster, you want:

1. WOT switch (wide open throttle switch) comes with most or all nitrous kits - this enables the nitrous to only be used when you are at WOT
2. low fuel pressure safety switch - if your fuel pressure gets too low, the nitrous will automatically disengage so that you won't be spraying nitrous into your engine without enough fuel.
3. RPM window switch - enables you to select the RPM in which you want to use the nitrous

the items listed above are must-haves IMO. there are a few other nice little things you could get too that aren't necessarily needed (remote bottle opener, automatic bottle warmer, etc)

you didn't say whether or not you were getting a wet or dry kit but make sure you get a wet kit.

other things you want to replace/do before first using nitrous:

1. replace fuel filter
2. replace spark plugs with one step colder plugs
3. use at least 93 octane
4 a. get a specific nitrous tune
b. or something that will allow you to or that will automatically retard the timing for when nitrous is used (J&S Safeguard or crane ignition with timing controller)

Do you know where you will fill the tank? It sucks to drive to fill it. Nitrous makes your car feel so slow when your not spraying. You will catch yourself saying "I'd race him, if I had any spray left". Ah whatever you will love it, keep it safe, tune for it!!!

If i have a preadator tunner can that be used to tune it for a nitrous tune?

also, Viney266.....he's a nitrous king around here....lol....he knows his shit.

When I was thinking about it, he gave me lots of good info. I know a LOT more now.

don't forget to search under forced induction "nitrous"....lots of good posts there...
