I don't know about the 0/0 thing. I put mine on, set them at 0/0 so when i got back to the states I could get it dyno'ed and it runs perfect. It's been that way for a year now with no issues. I have read about the -4/-4, but it doesn't seem to be the case with my car.

Yes but running at 0,0 sucks. The TDC on these cars is anything but that. But, don't get me wrong it will run the hell out of stock cam timing. But, its not at the optimum timing.

I think he is saying it runs like stock. But, for more performance and efficiently -4, -4 is the optimum staring point.

Since when aren't high-flow cats allowed in Cali.?!?!

Like mentioned a couple times above, every car is different. My car was the one that was used in the How-To and it did run like crap on 0/0. Others may put their at 0/0 and run great. Put it to whatever you think feels the best until you can get it dynoed.

My current setting is -2/-8(I/E)

I actually did the old butt dyno(plus a little SCT datalogging) and when I went to the actualy dyno it proved very accurate. The intake cam has the most influence it seemed and shifted the powerband, it seemed that much past -2 really killed the bottom end without much gain up top. On the otherhand the exhaust gear, the more i retarted the gear the long the power stayed around after peak without sacraficing low end power at all. I understand every engine is a bit different but the general response should be about the same. Mind you these are stock cams, it is a ZX2 which is slightly more aggresive(stage 1 for Focus guys).

My 2 cents[:D]

High flow cats are NOT legal in Cailf. The cat most be a stock factory unit.
well ur wrong there buddy. i had my car smogged with a random tech high flow cat. and it was smogged by a CARB referee. i asked about that. he said they are fine unless they are hallowed out.

high flo cats ARE legal in cali. sorry to burst your bubble. no cats are NOT legal in cali.

Well I have decided it I'm just going to get the cylinder head package that Focussport sells I figure that will give me everything I'm looking to do anyway and if I keep doing little things here and there it is going to end up costing me more money anyway. The cylinder head FS sells gives me everything camshafts, gears, all the goodies then the only other things is to install the supercharger I bought. Last question does anyone know of a good shop to install head and charger? Thanks for helping out. [8D]

OK! So why is this on the Random Tech web site?:
“Note that aftermarket catalytic converters are not legal for use in California on OBDII vehicles (some 1994 and 1995 and all 1996 and later vehicles).”

I did how ever have plenty of problems getting the cam lock bar to line up for TDC. My advice would be to START at 0/0, don't set the gears at -4/-4 and think everthing will be A-OK.

As for the CAT issue, it is actually illegal to remove the OEM cat unless it needs to be replaced, period... That is a US law... I read it upon shipping my car from Portugal to Seattle. It's a $50K fine for messing with a cars emissions system. However no one is going to give you crap about it if your car passes the emissions test.

20 hours?!? I think it took my friend and I less time to drop my transmission, replace my clutch and remount the transmission...
He corrected it later, it only took 2 hours, not 20. LOL

It's pretty simple, if you have the crank pin and cam lock bar.
Pull the belt
pull the gears
put new gears on
screw in crank pin
turn motor till it hits the pin (by hand)
Slide in cam lock bar
bolt down cam gears
REMOVE crank pin

i can tell you that the AEM instructions say -4/-4. the factory timing is terrible. when i had it at 0.0 the car was missing like a crazy. the timing at -4/-4 is amazing. there is a power difference. if you put them at 0,0 the car will run like shit. trust me on this. look up under the how to sectin and you will see that -4,-4 is better.

it was 2 HOUR INSTALL. not 20. i misspoke sorry, there are a couple parts to get out of the way. but nothing major. its a good install.

would -4/-4 work for other cam gears as well or only AEM?

That's what I thought about the Cat deal. Who told youthat high flows are illegal? Someone needs a [slap]

Guess you didn’t bother reading all the replies, check Random Tech’s web site,
near the bottom of their home page is this note.:

“Note that aftermarket catalytic converters are not legal for use in California on OBDII vehicles (some 1994 and 1995 and all 1996 and later vehicles).”

So I guess according to you Random Tech needs a [slap]. LOL
