I'm sure i could do it but yeah i'll leave it to the pros atleast i know i can get some kind of warranty on the install and componants. i have dealt with a couple local installers one i didnt like because og poor customer service and the other tried to change the price on some speakers after i got a quote on them. but i think i will stay with circuitcity for the install unless i find a good local installer shop shouldn't be hard there is like ten on one street here in modesto over on mchenry ave.

I just want to make sure if i buy the parts from crutchfield they will use them and not say something like "no we can't use them becuase you didn't get them from us" or something like that.

Most shops will, but make sure you get your actual packages back when you pick the car up after the install. They may charge you for an extra half hour of install time though, just because you didn't buy the stuff there.

Are you putting the door speakers in yourself or having them do that too? If you do them yourself, go to one of the shops near you and see if they have the speaker harnesses that will plug into the factory harness in the door, that way you don't have to cut the plug off and splice in the speaker wire.

Hope that helps, if you still aren't sure of anything, please ask...I wouldn't want you to overpay for the install or run into any other issues along the way.

I'm doing the door speakers myself i have already bought the crimp tool and attached the snap connectors to the wires so it's a bit late now no biggie. i can do the install on the radio myself also so maybe i can save a bit of money on that.

Just how many wires need to be connected to the H/U is it just the RCA jacks or something else. because if thats all it is then hell i'll do the install of the H/U and just have the shop do the amp/sub.

And yeah mike you have been more then helpful with all this it's always good to have information about something instead of just walking blindly into something new.

Are you meaning for the amp wiring or just the main connections for the hu?

If you are meaning the main connections, you will have around 11 connections or so.

I'm glad I could help.

Man i could i have made less sense on that one!?

What i meant was how many wires need to be connected from the amp to the h/u. I know of the rca jacks that lead from the amp to the h/u. but are there any other wires coming from the amp to the h/u that need to be connected.

I i made up my mind i am going to do the install of the h/u myself save some money and time at the installers.

The 2800 does not have specific sub pre-outs, but you can use the rear pre-out for the sub pre-out. If you don't want to do it that way and don't mind spending a little extra on the hu, I would then go with the Pioneer DEH-P4800MP, which should only be about $30-$40 more than the 2800.

Well today i went around to some local installers and had a look around and asked some questions.

The first one had a feeling of like some one opend a shop at their house and honestly i had a hard time speaking with the persons there one needed to translate for the other and so on, so that one is out of the question.

Next up was circuitcity i am still laughing at the price they wanted for install $100 then $30 for rcas and $50 for a wire kit. and i was told i could bring in my own outside parts but they need to check then to make sure so we know where that might lead......"well yours didnt work so we used one of ours and tacked on $50 to your final cost"

Now one more local installer i went in asked for the plugs for the speakers so i didnt have to clip them i was told they didnt sell'em because they clip and strip ok thats fine atleast he was up front about that not like the first shop. so next i asked him about the cost of installing an amp/sub he asked factory or aftermarket radio so i showed him the pioneer i was useing along with the amp and sub i wanted so final cost $140 total. and an hour work.

So any ways i started the install of the speakers they spund alot better then the stock ones. i just wish they played at the same volume level as the front ones. is this some thing from ford that the front speakers play at a higher volume level then the rears? this was preexcisting even before the new speakers went in.

So i can plug the amp rca's in to the rca jacks on the new h/u with out any problems or any other parts needed right.

I don't know if that is a Ford thing or not...is this with the stock hu? If it is, once you put the aftermarket one in, you should not have that issue any more...It could also just be that the rear speakers are behind you and the sound could be being blocked by the front seats some, the mid and high frequencies tend to be very directional in the way they travel and can be easily blocked by objects in the sound's path.

I think it's just a stock h/u issue i was in the back seat when i tried them out then i moved to the front. i checked all the balances left/right, front/back.

How many wire harness's are their on the rear of the stock h/u mine is a mp3 cd player if that matters. and is their a how-to on removing the stock h/u on a 2007?

I don't know about the harness on the '07's (I have a 2000), but it may have 1 or 2, but I'm not sure.

As for the how-to, a quick look at the FAQ sticky at the top of the Car Audio forum gave me this one here.

Ok checked it out. the radio trim panel came out fast and easy..........Hmmmm reminds me of a joke [;)]

I checked out the rear of the radio unit and it has one plug. but i had to disconnect the controls for the A/C and that to get more room to work around.

I wasn't sure, some of the '05+ Foci had two plugs from what I've read, so I didn't know for sure and didn't want to mislead you at all. Did you get the hu done? If so, how did the rest of it go and more importantly, how does it sound?

I wish

I haven't even bought the h/u yet. i was just checking things out before doing any thing so far i have only order the harness and the in-dash kit from crutchfield. this is piece work here i am buying what i can as i can. i do have plans to keep this thread updated

That works, I understand how it goes for piecing things together over time...I had to do that for my first full system too. Have you decided on which hu you are going with?

Mike

Not a bad deck, but I personally would take the next step up to the DEH-P4800MP, but if the 3800 has what you want, go for it...I just like the dark gray flip-down face along with the 3 sets of high voltage pre-outs...but again, it is ultimately your choice and budget...I have been in the situation where I wanted the next step up, but couldn't (at the time) afford the $30-$40 more and ended up regretting the decision a little.

Price wise they are all within range it's just the 3800 has the detachable face plate with is a feature i look for and the 4800 is a flip down....and those always scream "I WILL BREAK IN A MONTH"

I've never had any problems ever with a flip-down face, and two of the ones I've had are motorized ones, but for ease of use, the pass-thru faces are by far the best. As far as I know, all of the Pioneer decks have a detachable face-plate though.
