Ok I recently bought a 01 Focus SE with auto tranny and im having trouble when I go around corners finding 2nd gear, if you have ever had this happen to you its not the greatest feeling in the world, your whole car slows down and you start jerking all around. My dad says to manually put it in the 2nd gear. I know i shouldn't do this cause that strictley for towning right? So is their anything I can do to fix this problem with out having to buy a new tranny?

I don't have a clue about the tranny's on the focus...but with the older cars you could adjust the kickdown cable...if it was happening in more gears than one...

Thats the largest problem with older people and newer cars, way back in the day before everything was run on computers manualy shifting a auto would have been fine. Not on our trannys, how many miles are on the car. Have you ever had the transmission flushed, I suggest you start with that and then see whats happeneing.

I've seen 2 or 3 threads on this lately, and I definitely know what you're talking about. It's not every time you turn, and only seems to happen to me when I *almost* stop at a light or stopsign (when noone's around). It seems like it's engaging the gear quickly without first pulling the engine up from idle rpm, which it was allowed to drop to since you were stopping. Try doing that with a manual and you'll get the same jerking, along with a quickly deteriorating clutch... No real way that I see to stop this from happening to an atx, aside from stopping all the way.

If I'm totally wrong about the process, call my bluff. I'm only going by observation here.

so wait... you say its engaging 2nd gear when you get going from a stop!?!?

[eek]

Sounds like a bigger problem... [;)]

I'm obviously misunderstanding. Please try to explain the situations when the jerking happens, maybe we can get to the bottom of our problems.

no it starts off in first gear then as i accelerate when it is supposed to shift to third the rpm's go way up and it skips to 3rd and the car just slows way down. After about 30 seconds to a minute it usually finds it. But this only happens about once a week or so.
