Any time I hit any kind of bump, the rear squeaks. Both rear sides. When I was at ford with the stupid headlight problem I asked them.. and they said a section of the new foci have recalls on them for that exact reason. They said all they do is flip some little plate thingy over, and it stops it. Of course mine wasnt in that section of foci. I dont know, but its extremely annoying. Anyone have any clue what it could be? I dont have anything aftermarket done, its all stock...

Its really that easy?? Dang... How will I know if I need to flip the plate? Did some cars come with the plate installed the correct way?

I'm don't really know about suspension but my brothers mustang has a squeak in the back. He told me it was his caster camber plates. As read this thread i was guessing that was the answer. I'm just throwing that in there becase it has not been mentioned.

From what Les Schwab told me, the Focus doesnt come stock with a caster/camber kit. At least not one thats adjustable...

my SVT has similar sounds in the rear....mine only happens on rough roads.it sound like something is "swinging" in the rear...it seems like something is loose and just swinging around under the car making alot of noise on rough roads....i have full poly bushings in the rear including the rear trailing arms....does anyone have this problem??? its becoming quit annoying and I cant figure it out....Should I just get under the car and tighten everything down and spray with some greese?

Alright, I fixed my issue.
So I got the car up on a lift, and was messing around with the ebrake cables where they run through the eye thing that holds them up. Well, the squeaks werent comming from the eye part itself... at least not where the cable is going through. The cable itself has a protective outer coating, which would not cause the squeak. The issue was, the entire piece that holds the cable up. One end of it goes up into the body. Bare metal on metal. THAT is what causes the squeak. There is a bolt on each side that holds that eye piece up. I took them out, and cut those buggers off totally. I now have the lines zip tied up. And guess what. NO SQUEAKS! Whatsoever! Its sooooooo nice to have it quiet again. I say to hell with greasing them all the time. Just do what I did. Permanent fix baby!
Here is a pic of the eye part, incase some of you are wondering...

But be warned, thats some hard metal. It will take some umph to get it apart. Mine actually broke in half when I was bending the eye out straight.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but it's still relevant.
I finally got a chance to check into this, and Ford must have upgraded this e-brake mount. I'll take a pic. The sound I was getting, was from a completely blown shock. No wonder my car was wobbling around so bad....

Why do you need to replace the nut, I have this squeak and am thinking about trying it out, but if I need to go buy nuts first to do it I need to know, and need to know what size too I imagine.

New nut question - it's a recommendation because the nut is a 'nylock' or similar self locking one that works best only on it's first use. NOT absolutely required, but it MAY loosen if a new one isn't used.
NOTE - that problem is mentioned for noises OTHER THAN a squeak.
E-Brake cable(s) rubbing when worn in it's feed loop(s) for the most common squeak. Once the rubber/plastic cable sheath/loop cover is worn through, it's steel on steel for a squeak.
Hose slit and installed to replace the worn sheathing is a longer lasting fix than just greasing the contact points.

About a week ago I climbed under there and squeezed a piece of milk jug I had cut into a square in the eye around the brake cable, mine is worn through the rubber down to the metal jacket and thought it would stay due to pressure(it was hard to get it in there). But after climbing under there today I realized it must have fallen out right after I had put it in because I used a piece of inner tube from a bicycle I keep to make ranger bands with and slid it in there and this time I zip tied it in place and sure enough the squeak is gone!

You know what surprised me was how much the cable moved in and out of the eyelet while my wife pushed down on the rear bumper. It must have traveled 2-3 inches back and forth through that bracket. I am so happy the noise is gone though, thank you sailor & all who post your issues and resolutions here and are always ready to lend a helping hand to those like me who need it!
