Hey everyone, I was just wondering what suggestions you all would give me as far as turbos and tuners for a 2017 Focus SE hatchback. As much as I love the thing, it needs some more power and I already know a good tune and forced induction will really help my cause. I've found a few here and there, I just wanted to see what the forums is having luck with

I can't sell and get an ST because of the program I got my car through. I bought it directly from Ford rather than from a dealer for a reduced price. In case anyone is still following this thread, I've decided to trust Tom and his hardware since he is the only person I've found doing stuff specifically for Focus N/A models. This will save me the risk of doing a tune that may or may not be dangerous because its not car specific and doing a chop and swap turbo which I was originally going to have to do unless I could steal a turbo off of a scrapped ST.

Those guys had a lot of constraints to deal with to make it sellable to the lowest denominator. I like the ST for its work every time, no need to mess with anything feel. But I have a thing for the SVT as well.

Hear that. Been dealing with same thing. So hear is my thoughts. IF going with SVT better to go turbo. As far as a daily driver good Luck and the cost.So if you go with ST you will already be ahead of the game. The focus SVT RUNS STOCK IN QUARTER MILE 15.9. The ST runs 14.6 I believe. And it is a daily driver.

I dont feel ST would be ahead of the game , My SVT has run a best of 12.99 and where it has been set for 9 years runs 13.4 to 13.6 every time and nothing has been touched on it in 9 years but spk plugs , oil changes , new fuel pump normal maintenance and at half the cost of a ST or less and in my opinion handles just as well and it me is more comfortable to drive , I drove a ST for 2 weeks and I like my SVT much much better for daily driving

Tom

i kinda miss the svt, but buying and maintaining a a really nice 12-14 yr old svt is just a pia , the st feels solid but plush and dailys really good & and the seats {Recaros} are like my carpet slippers ,my motto these days is pay to maintain or pay the loan take your pick , in a different world i would still own a svt as well then i would have decision issues every morning [twothumbs]

Tom, St is a completely different animal tuned and with boltons, intercooler upgrade, etc..I agree that in 100% stock form, the ST is rather anemic

There may be another way, but the turbo kit by Tom would certainly be the easiest...I have been researching a hybrid engine, NA block with ST head and then using stock ST intake manifold/turbo and hot/cold pipes for a poor mans turbo system...with custom tuning needed obviously... someone has apparently done this and I was given his email on facebook a few weeks ago but have not received a reply yet.

Yes , I agree but at the cost of what an additional 5000.00-8000.00 more , Add turbo another 2000.00 with it tuned ? 8000.00 - 10,000.00 for another 200hp ?

I get your point , It isnt for me and I was still disappointed in the ST and the RS as well , I drove a ST that made 313 hp , I drove the ST , he drove my SVT and even he said the SVT felt faster and stated it felt better over all driving it , he is about 6-3 and 270 about my size and hates the ST seats

Tom

Oh yeah to make the legalees and warranty guys happy the car couldn't be fully optimized or uncorked. Modded STs are a great performance car for the money. Just seems easier to mod an st rather than go full build on an NA car.
Really nice used low mile SVT Focus 4500.00 , Turbo kit making 280-300HP 5500.00 installed , total 10,000.00 ready to go ???

Nice MK3 5000.00 , DIY Turbo kit installed and running with larger Inj and pump for 500hp 7500.00 , built engine 4000.00 , HP 450-500 , cost 16,500.00 ???

Would cost about 10,000 for 450-500hp if you already owned a ST

Rear mount = fail. I did one in an LS trans am when I was 19. Could have bought a D1SC after learning the hard way.

Ive driven an ST and currently own an 04 SVT. They are anapples to oranges comparison. If you wanna go faster for cheaper then get a liter bike. I prefer the svt for the driving experience and cheaper investment for a toy. But if I had to live with it everyday, the ST is easily the winner.I guess it comes down to what you can afford and live with.
