unservicable... figures... that doesn't work around where I live. dusty, dirt roads. I normaly take an air compressor to the filter about three times before i replace it. lol sad i know.

It lets you know if it needs to be replaced just like the ones on a diesel. That filter from Ford retails for $350.

Mouse I'm pretty sure if the filter's bulb thing gets to Red sometime before 100k (maybe before 75k or something) then Ford will replace it under its warranty?

Maybe b16sir1991 can shed some light on that issue... Mine got taken out at like 11k and the meter hadn't done a thing, so I don't know what it looks like when it changes... if it goes to Yellow first.. .or what.

You know for $25.00 you can fix that air filter problem.

Step one: remove all that air box crap.
Cost: a couple of hours and a few beers.

Step two: get a cotton gauze cone filter.
Cost: $25.00 and up, your choice.

Step three: clamp the cone filter onto the end of the MAF tube.
Cost: another beer.

You’re done.
Go have fun driving.
See my signature or the how-to section for more details.

Thanks, you’re referring to the Resonator/Hydrocarbon Trap.
If you look into the throttle body end of the box you will see the tube is double-walled, that is the Hydrocarbon Trap.
HC's coming out of the engine after shutoff are drawn into the box due to the low pressure caused by a venture effect of the air flowing past the opening in the tube while the engine is running.
It's anti-pollution stuff.
The box also resonates at a particularly frequency, this frequency has been deemed objectionable by Ford and is canceled out by the resonator.
The airflow path is a smooth tube inside the Resonator/Hydrocarbon Trap.

Now you learned a little more.

That "Trap" acts like a sink trap, keeping the unburned gas fumes from reaching the atmosphere. I went to a K&N AirCharger as soon as I saw what a nightmare the factory one was. Big power increase. Really glad I did it, that car sounds down right mean nailing it while entering the freeway!
