its like 2.5 hours of iron mountain road....
Affirmative on that! Though, it's closer to 4 hours!
Sheridan to Cody is one of the most beautiful drives I've ever seen!
The elevation changes are unreal, not unlike riding a roller coaster.
And, the "Slow 15mph Turns For The Next 20 miles Ahead" signs are found all over the place on that route.

Check out a map:
From Ranchester (just north of Sheridan) take Hwy-14 west.
At Burgess Jct, take Hwy-14A to Lovell, and continue on to Cody.
(That's the only "boring" section, from Powell to Cody.)
From Cody, head north on Hwy-120 (Belfry Hwy) about 20 miles.
Then hang a left and head west on Hwy-7RO which becomes Hwy-296 (Chief Joseph Hwy/Dead Indian Hill Rd).
You then instersect with Hwy-212 (Beartooth Hwy) and end up in Cooke City, MT and the NorthEast Yellowstone Entrance Rd.
It's 213.7 miles total from Ranchester to the northeast entrance.
Easy day drive! [:D]
After that, it's 45mph STRICTLY ENFORCED in the Park, and on to West Yellowstone, MT for the night.
From there...the next day...who knows.
Folks living to the north could head up through Bozeman and back home.
Folks living to the south could go through Grand Teton and continue back through Wyoming.
Folks living to the east could do it all over again, or opt to go out Yellowstone through the East Entrance.
Folks living to the west could head any number of ways back through Idaho.

We could meet Friday afternoon/evening in Sheridan.
Take off Saturday morning on THE road-trip to Yellowstone, and stay in West Yellowstone for that night.
(You don't want to stay in the Park...trust me...$$$...and there's no "night life"...

Sunday, we could all go back into the park for a few hours, and then head home from there?
Or, some of us could stay another night in West Yellowstone, and head home Monday.
Or???
Or???
I'm still thinking an AutoCross would be great....but that kills ALL of Sunday.
Though, it would be fun "whoopin" it up on all of you![:D]
LOL!

See if this works:

Well, it appears there is also some interest from the Northwest folks!
http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64123

We need some more suggestions though!
Maybe, West Yellowstone could be the meeting place/common ground base camp,
if we've got that many people heading out from the west?
All of you from CO and SD/ND could still do the Sheridan to West Y shot,
and we'd all meet up Saturday some time.
Take a mega fOCUSed loop around the entire Park on Sunday,
and home from there the next day?
Or, meet up in West Y on Friday afternoon/eve, loop through the Park on Saturday,
and home on Sunday?

I don't know. What do you all think?
I just want to have a lot larger turnout, and cruise with more than 6 Foci this time. [:(]

Just a couple things to remember:
Entrance fee:
http://www.nps.gov/yell/planvisit/orientation/entrfees.htm
(We always opt for the Annual National Parks Pass good for all the Nat Parks for a year,
since we usually get up to Glacier a few times as well)

Yellowstone Nat Park Map:
http://data2.itc.nps.gov/parks/yell/ppMaps/ACF337B.pdf

Weather:
Mid to late May is the earliest to find all the roads open.
Any earlier, and there may be some snow closures to contend with.

West Yellowstone Lodging:
http://www.westyellowstonenet.com/lodging/lodging.php
We've stayed at several different motels there,
so I know what's good, and what's NOT so good. [;)]

Sound Great!!
I'd like to join in so keep posting up to date info and maybe the "BUZ" will entice others to join in this coming year.
It's been years since I've been to "Jellystone". Anyone know of any Hot Springs in the area?

Not the plan at the moment, at least the "someones house" bit...
(no one lives in the area, well, no FFr's that is)
But, a "potluck/picnic" in the Park itself, or in the city of West Yellowstone,
could and should certainly be in the works.
We could combine some "eats" with a little show and shine. [;)]

Mid to late May is a great timeframe to tour the Park.
It's not so hot, so the animals are much more lively, and the traffic isn't too bad either at that time.
Once Memorial Day hits, and all the kids are out of school, it gets a LOT busier down there.
I do realize though, some of you may have a school schedule to contend with as it is.

I'll put my thinking cap on, and see what I can come up with for some good meeting/picnic spots.

Anyone know of any Hot Springs in the area?
There's a few, but they require a bit of a hike.

Off topic...sort of...
We were down there just a month ago, and took video.
One of these days I'll post it up, so you can get an idea of the scenery.
Even got Old Faithful showing up in it. [;)]

Here's a pic of West Yellowstone from our Motel room window...>>>Clicky

^^ once the idea's ironed out here, I might even volunteer to post a small website that covers the event, maps, dates, times, pics, etc. Then we can just point people to the site as the date draws nearer. Should have some freetime for that after the holidays if you are interested.

ok all, we need to start getting things together with this pretty soon. lets get some ideas thrown out and some plans drawn up for it so people can plan on attending. otherwise times gonna get short for those that have to put in for vacations (like me).
any dates to throw around?
time and place to meet?
that would be a good start. the rest could then be planned
