Hey, i recently had my cambelt replaced and the retards at the shop forgot to reconnect my MAF ( i wondered why my exhaust tip was dripping and puffin grey smoke ) well now i know, anyways i plugged my MAF back in and now the dripping and the grey smoke has gone but my car has got ALOT faster for some reason it spins when changing from 1st gear to 2nd gear and spins slightly from 2nd to 3rd, also my car used to creep upto 120mph top end and now it sails past that with ease touching 135mph at 5000rpm. anyone think i should have reset my ecu before reconnecting my MAF? for some reason i think my car may be running too rich and maybe getting damaged or something, Also since a plugged the maf back in the idle seems to run high when i press my clutch in, and seems a bit rough when im stationary ( this wasnt the case with it unplugged ) :S

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

you said timing belt or accesory belt...well which one? if the timing belt was replaced maybe the engine was timed different and now is running better. but like mlb said the stock governor is around 115.

actually it looks like me might not have a zetec?

Its definitely a zetec, unless somebody did an engine swap before since its second hand, yeah its the timing belt that i had done so maybe they changed timing settings or something but i still dont know how im going past 115 if thats where the govoner is set.

Umm, actually, the governor is what stops and engine from going any faster than the set speed, so unless the previous owner flashed or otherwise tuned the car, You are not doing 130-anything. In any case, if You really feel like resetting Your ECU, just disconnect the negative side of the battery for a couple of minutes, pop it back on and go for a drive...

when I first got my car --I wanted to see what it could do... so I set out on a long strecth of highway-- and I got up to 125 before I got scared of getting a ticket-- it didnt seem like the governor was even there[race]

ya, the only way you can "get rid" of the governer on an american focus is by flashing it w/ an sct tuner or diablo tuner. else, they are limited to 110 mph, at least all zetecs are.

First off I am going to be nice being you are still new, but I am still going to issue you an infraction.

and the fact that you are openly admitting to breaking the posted safe speed limits, i.e. street racing, which this site does not condone what so ever.

Now as per your problem, if you have not reset the ECU you should do so with everything plugged in correctly. It will take a few drive cycles for the car to learn itself again so give it a couple days. If the problem seems to persist please don't hesitate to ask again, it's what we are here for.
