I have a CD-Silver ZTW, thats the wagon. I think the wagon looks great with tinted windows but I'm not into a limo dark tint. So, I'm definatley going with a gray/black tint-no frosting but how dark to make it?

I thought I would go with a 35% tint but am now thinking about a lighter 50% tint.
Anyone have opinins on the tint strength on a silver colored Focus?

i'd go with 35%. it's not ridiculously dark, so it should look good in contrast with the silver of your wagon.

i regret every day not going 5% on my zx5. The wagon has lots of windows, to let in lots of light. I like my windows dark, and 20% doesn't do it well on my car. I'd suggest 20% for you if you don't like to be too aggressively dark. I wouldn't go into color tinting though, like gray, mirror, *orange* tint, just get black 20% all the way around and look good. 50% wouldn't do anything at all, i'd be surprised if you could tell the difference on a decently sunny day.

i would also have to say 35% its not too dark but it does give it a good look to the car. like cowsgomoo said the 50% wont do much so i do suggest the 35% if you dont want something that dark on your car

I personally think you should find out what is your state law (35%) , been a Police Officer, anything under 30%, I would pull you over , that alone is probable cause to pull you over, then it might open a can of worms, now what ?
Just try to protect your self more, so you give us no more reason to pull you over. Just a friendly advice !![}:)]

Thanks for the input. Washington State has a 35% limit on cars. If you have an SUV, you can do anything you want from the backseat windows back. I appreciate the dark windows on a sunny day but I live in the NW-the rain capital of the US (not really, but lots of overcast days) and then there is night driveing. Visability is rather important to me-duh! so I'm leaning towards a split. Passenger windows and drivers window, 50%, the rest 35%. I actually have that combo on another car and it dosn't look weird. Since there is only 15% diff between the two, unless you really look, you don't notice the diff.

I do think that darker windows look better on bright and strong colored cars, like red, yellow, etc. ON silver, I think you can overdo it with tint. This is the looks aspect of the tint. Obviously if I lived in Arizona or Fl. I think more about the protection a stong tint would provide.
I'm out.

Tinted today. Decided on 35% rear seats back and 50% front. I'm real happy with the choice, though it may not be what others would like. The 50 in the front allows enough light in so I have great visability even at night, yet at only 15% difference from the back, most people would never notice the difference form the exterior. I think this is because you have a see through effect where the darker 35% is in the background from most angles.. However the darker 35% in the rear will make my dog cooler and the appearence is great against the silver. I went with a company that uses Llumar film. It comes with a life time guarantee and will not fade. Cost was $225. That is pretty typical around here.
I'm getting more, and more Focused! Next -the lower grille. Euro Hex patter to match the upper.
Someday a rear spoiler but engine mods will take precedence for a while now.

FCUK, you got so raped. that's WAY too much money. I got my 5% done last week end, for $80. And he charges $90 for sedans and wagons. WOW!
If a cop pulls me over cuz of my tint, i'll probably flip a bitch. HE HAS WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON HIS HAND, no donut.

That's the going rate from a reputable shop in these parts. I'd like to pay less but will always pay more if it comes with a guarantee. Hey, I'm not saying that they don't charge too much. It took the tech about 2 hours. so I'm thinking I'm paying mostly for the nationwide lifetime guarantee.

as far as the price goes you getwhat you pay for!
As I said, I'd like to have paid less (who would'nt) and I'm all for cutting deals or locating the lowest price, but I've learned that often quality costs.
Besides, the tech that did the install is an artist. I don't mind paying artists their due.
I'm real happy with the finished product and I know that if it f-cks-up, I've got a lifetime, nationwide warranty from Llumar-one of the bigest names in glass tinting.
Besides, have you seen those tint jobs that fade into some bizare color on the windows? -yech! Llumar tint has metal in it and will not change color.[8D]

ya too bad mine is Llumar film too and you definetly got raped. Actually, it is more like you got raped by 10 Gay guys. Mine is 5% all around and its not that hard to see out at night unless you were blind from the start. Then you shouldn't even be driving.

You have 5% on the front windows? That must lower your visability at night from the side. Besides, I just don't like not being able to see a driver in the car next to me. It creaps me out. Futhermore, now doubt in this state you would be ticketed. 35% max on front windows.
As far as the price. Well, live and learn I guess. As I say, mine is Llumar premium metalized ATR film guaranteed for life and servicable nationwide.

Jake is right, you get what you pay for, but he is also wrong as far as Llumar is. Llumar is a half DYED and half METALIZED, It will take and long time before it starts to fade which it will but more than likely 10 years down the road before you are able to tell. Llumar is made by a company called CPFilms which is based in Martinsville VA. They do make a full METALIZED film called FORMULA ONE. It is the only Fully METALIZED film on the market that also has a liftime warr. You are going to ask how i know this and that is i work for for a company that sells both these films.

state legal 50% here in Maine, so that's what I've got, had 20% got pulled over $400 dollar fine and I had to peel it, so that was $500 for that one, went to a 35%, got pulled over $500 dollar fine for a second offense, and I had to peel it plus the $100 for the tint. 50% now, no problems whatsoever. So all in all, I've paid $1200 for 50% tint. It is always safest to just do it legal the first time. Not to mention the two violations on my record now, for driving an uninspectable vehicle.

You're brave to admit this! It may save someone else some necessary cash though. Thanks.

As far as the ATR Llumar flim being only partially metalized....of course you are right. I didn't like the film that was fully metalized as it had a reflective quality. The tech told me that he usually puts it on cars like Mercedes Benz and Beemers. It was only $40 more ( as I recall) but I just didn't like the look of it.
Of course, the bottom line is that what ever tint you decide on, you are personally happy ( or perhaps legal) with the results. No one elses opinion really matters; unless you're a poser.
