So I've been reading about lowering springs and how the 2014 front struts were changed slightly which is causing people to have to go back to 2012/2013 struts.

Anyone know why Ford did this? Do the 2014 struts perform better? Better wear rates? Cheaper?

My $0.02 is a change either for ease of assembly or material cost savings or both. $0.03 savings in spring cost x 1 million springs equals $30K reduction in cost. Do that over 100 different product items (and think of how many components are in one car, never mind all the models Ford sells) and all the sudden it's $3M in extra profit. Figure that to get $3M in extra profit at (for the sake of argument) 10%, you'd need to sell $30M in vehicles.

hmm that seems likely considering the focus is an econo car not a high end performance car.
