I am looking at getting a new set of wheels, the 16x7 Sparco Assetto Gara White Painted. they are on sale right now for $99 a wheel vs the 17" For AutoX and Full Road track use would the 16" be the best option or would the 17" tire be better?

I am geared with the 4.10 final drive gear also...

Tire sizes in both yes. Looking at a 225 wide tire Toyo R1R and Proxy RE-11

The R1R have the 225/45R16 and 225/45R17

Pirelli P Zero System and RE-11 are 225/45ZR17

RE-11 have the 225/50R16 which is the width to side wall I run right now on my 960's

So there is adequate tire coverage for both sizes in terms of width I am looking for similar price brackets.

Edit: Also the R1R and the Dunlop Direzza ZII both come in a 225/R45R16 size which would reduce my side wall. it seems like that is one reason to go to a 17" is a shorter / stiffer side wall to help with turn in.

Sizing generally sucks for 16's, most are usually kinda tall. I don't know how the gearing for a std ZX3 is but for an SVT I feel shorter is better.

Tire Rack has some good deals on 17" wheels too in the $100/ea range.

I just got the Sparco Assetto Gara wheels in Matte Graphite Silver.

not ultra light weight but less than stock or many other options. Also only $115 each for those color.

Now its just looking at the tire selection. I have been running 225 on my stock 16" which further information and track experience I am getting side wall flex. I am thinking with the 7" wide tire and staying with the same width it will help with the "floating" feeling and get better turn in and steering response.

so looking at 225/45R17 g-Force Rival or Potenza RE-11A. Tires are a good price also (under $150 a tire).

Edit, also I have a change in my final drive gear from the 3.82:1 to a 4.06:1 gear.

I am thinking that a 225/45R17 is going to really be about the same size as the 225/50R16. there is a difference of .1" in total tire height.
