I'm trying to remove the pinch bolt that holds the ball joint to the assembly. I've removed the nut, but the bolt will not budge! Should that bolt just be able to be tapped out with a mallet or does it twist out? Btw my car is a 2005 focus ZX5.

Thanks!

Use a drift pin or punch to tap it out.

So, by Felix's answer, the bolt just pulls out and not threaded, correct?

Sorry for posting in the wrong section.

Yah, use lots of your favorite rust penetrant & use the nut on the end until you get it to move to avoid destroying the threads at the end. (std. advice for getting bolts loose)

I wish I had his problem! My pinch bolt came out with a few taps of a hammer and flat headed punch. My big headache was in getting the axle to come out of the hub.
Yes, it's only threaded at the end. Once it comes out, when you go to put it back it will probably slide right in. But if you do mess it up, the Ford dealer has them or can get them for you. I'm told that you don't want to substitute a generic bolt here. I picked up two spares at about $3.50 each just in case. I went ahead and used the new one when I reassembled the knuckle.
