Are the front wheel bearings pressed in or are they a bolted in hub assembly? Thanks!

Pressed in and have internal snap rings.

I think my drivers side is going, makes odd noises occasionally.

my right rear is making noise. according to the ford's workshop manual, you're supposed to replace the spindle and bearing together, but I think you could probably get away with just doing the bearing...assuming the spindle isn't bent

how do you know they need to be replaced?

I'm wondering if I should replace mine- On the highway when I take my foot off the gas I slow down more than I used to, I can't just coast anymore, but no starnge noises. Replace them?

When you swerve side to side at about 10- 15 mph you will hear a noise, not the tires though. You might get a different feel between the two sides.
