I've been working on replacing the front wheel bearings on my MK3 after having also done one of them on my daughter's MK1 Focus. Unlike the rear bearings where you can buy a hub assembly that includes the bearing, the front bearings must be pressed out of the knuckle.

Most of the videos I have seen on doing this suggest removing the entire knuckle and using a shop press to remove the old bearing, press in a new one and press in the hub. However, with the right loaner tool kit, you can do it without a shop press and without removing the knuckle from the vehicle.

After doing this, I documented the procedure and while there are quite a few steps, if everything goes smoothly, it can be done in a little over an hour.

Here's a link to a pdf document describing what I did.

Yea it can be done, I prefer to remove it & use a press. Kinda similar to dropping the cradle w/ engine to swap out a water pump on a Ford 3.5 vs in the confines of in the vehicle.
