so heres the problem

when ever i park in my drive way (front towards the garage) and i turn the car off i put it in first gear pull the e-brake up and take my feet off the pedals my car will SLOWLY slip a gear it seems and roll back....it does this tell it makes it to the bottom of the drive way what would cause this its pretty dangerous and im very nervous parking on hills

i would def check the e-brake and make sure that everything is working frist, then i would pull the rear drums and see what kinda shape they are in. as far as slipping out of gear incan only think that the wait of the car is to much to hold it in gear.

well i can tell you right now my drums are shot to hell iv been trying to replace them for a month now but im waiting to get disks..
but its not a gradual roll back it makes liek a creaking noise as it rolls back then it slips and does a big roll back then catches agian and creaks agian the makes a big slip back

i have to but a brick behind my car everytime i park in my driveway so i usually park on the road now

reverse is a slightly higher gearing that 1st that is why it holds better, 3.42 vs 3.46

the direction the car is facing relative to the hill does not matter you can and should put it in reverse no matter what to reduce wear on the 1st gear synchro and fork

bascially when it is rolling down hill in 1st you are rotating the engine backwards, as it runs into compression strokes it catches every little bit of the way, the compression strokes are harder to push on and slow the car down that is why it catches.

The simple solution here is to check the adjustment nut on the e-brake lever, pull your center console and you will see it. Try out a few things and see if it works better

if that doesnt help then you need new drums and that is all there is to it (speaking from experience here, 181k on my factory drums and i have the same problem, creaking sound and all)
