Well since I have been building my Escort Gt, the wife says I have to give the Focus to the kids. I need to swap the Manual for an auto. Any tips suggestions would be very helpful.

I know it sounds like overkill, but the headache of swapping the trannys will be less than teaching them how to drive a stick

Yea, I still say teach the kid stick... Only because it's a great learning curve... those first 3-5 hours are the worst ever.... but after that, your son/daughter can drive any car, and feel in control...

just my opinion. My 1st car was a stick, and honestly, although my mom tried teaching me... the way I learned was taking the car out by myself, while she was at work... just around the block... a lot less of a headache, for me, and herself.

and personally, I am glad I was foruntate enough to learn manual...
Why not ask you son/daughter if auto or manual is their preference...

then you can do the swap...[:)]

I understand, but I don't really want to teach them anyways. 1 day in the garage and I can get back to the scort. I will keep the manual in case they trash the auto.

alright then... as long as you are confident with the install...
If you can sort out parts... from focus salvage or something... then yea, it should be an easy swap?

You just need to sort out tuning... starter...

from walter marcy @ focaljet.

"Woah! This is a 2.3L Duratec ATX Focus Motor going into a 2.0L Duratec MTX car. It absolutely WILL WORK. There will be a little sorting to do with flywheels and starters and clutches to get everything right, but that's the worst of it. Because the 2.3L is taller the motor mount studs are higher, so you will need a passenger side motor mount for a 2.3L to keep the engine at the correct angle, but that is all. All of the wiring will interchange from the 2.0L to the 2.3L so it should be a breeze to install.'

I assume your 2004 is a duratec?

I'm sorry. I never said what I have. I have the 2.0 Zetec.

I still think the swap is as staight-forward as walter marcy claims...

Just need to sort out the parts and tuning...
don't have to worry about the motor mount issue...

Although Benny @ focaljet is or has undergone the zetec to duratec swap... but from what I recall, he said Wiring is a [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]g pain in the ass!

Best call walter marcy, he's a polite man to talk to on the phone, and will help you with everything, as long as he has the time available to do it. If he doesn't answer the phone, keep on calling...
