Hey guys, I'm almost done rebuilding a d23 engine and wanted to know what kind of oil was the best to use for break in.

I've been advised to use 10w-40 for the first 20 miles, then again untill the new engine reaches 500 miles, before switching to 5w-20. Also I know to stay away from synthetic till around 5000 miles.

However my concern is that with the tight clearences that the duratec's require, I'm concerned that 10w-40 will be too thick. I live in the south east and it has been in the 90's most of the summer but still. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't bother running 10w40. If you are concerned, I'd use either 5w30 or 10w30 for one OC then switch to 5w20.

Your fine with a 40wt the Duratec doesnt have tight clearances at all and I would NEVER go to a 20wt oil in any of my engines or any of the snake oils

I also am in Charlotte and I run 40wt in winter and 50wt summer
