Only had mine for a month, but it has only has a few minor things:
Chrome peeling on the steering wheel, and O2 sensors giving a management light (ordered and just waiting for them to arrive).

2002 Focus ZTS: Fuel pump died at about 50,000. Needed a new clutch at 150,000 miles, but that was after my two sons used it to learn how to drive a stick shift.

2007 Focus SE Wagon: Alternator died at about 135,000 miles. Hit an opossum last summer at about 145,000 miles which knocked loose the crankcase sensor leaving me stranded and needing a tow.

2010 Ford Focus S 5-speed with an ABS control module that failed. Not planning to replace it given it's $1600 for a brand-spanking new control module

2010 Ingot Silver SES Sedan Auto 113k miles.
Body, paint, interior have held up excellent.

My main complaint is all the rattles and clunks in the front suspension.
I'm replacing struts in a few weeks. We'll see what rattles, creaks, and clunks go away, and what remains. Links were replaced about 20k miles ago, so I hope they're not shot again, and another rattle was brake hardware. Bottom engine mount just replaced, passenger side replaced already. Anything rubber on these cars seems to be substandard.

I'm at the age where I don't have time or energy to fix all this ***** myself, yet shop prices are ridiculous. ($800-$1000 for struts? no thanks.) Rattles and clunks drive me crazy. On the other hand, the car has absolutely zero trade-in value, so I'll probably keep it until the transmission or a major engine issue puts it out of commission and isn't worth fixing.

All new motor put in.

So the car was losing power after long hot trips. Went to 3 mechanics, including an European car specialist, and no one could tell me what it was. The EU "specialist" actually telling me it was because it was out of fuel.

One guy isolated it to the coil, and put a new one in. I drove it home and it felt strange so I told my dad to give it a run. It started making a hideous grinding noise so we crawled it back to the mechanic and he said the timing belt had come off and had probably bent the valves.

Sure enough, my regular mechanic found 2 bent valves, potentially more. It would have cost more to fix it than it did to get the new engine so I went with that. The rest of the car is in great condition, so it'd have been a shame to scrap it.

Among other small faults, like a leaking coolant hose, coolant leaking onto the timing belt from somewhere, and currently a non-functioning blower motor. All of these have been fixed except the BM though, I should note.

I notice people are having problems with their transmission and it having a sort of thud or grinding sound. It turns out you’ll need to get a new control module and have it reprogrammed by a ford dealer.

The big thing with mine was rust lots of rust underneath and the rockers had to be replaced. I replaced all control arms front and back subframe had to be replaced rear sway bar bushings and links and passenger side cv boot was ripped open so I replaced both sides CV axles and front callipers and rear drums and wheel cylinders. Since I didn’t have a hoist it took all summer replacing everything. Found out quite I bit about the focus working on it. 2010 focus ses.

The '15 Focus I traded in has been at the dealers sitting on the lift for two months now waiting for a back ordered transmission. How's that for a problem..
Dodged that bullet.

You really opened up a can of worms with this survey! I have a 2012 SE and I just crossed 50K miles. Only problems I've had so far (fingers crossed...no jinx!) is replacing a back-up light and a brake light. Back in June I drove from Detroit to DC with not a single problem. Great drive and I got almost 40 MPG. Obviously, we've all heard the transmission horror stories but I seem to be on the lucky side of that.
