I have done a search , but can't find the info tha I am looking for.

Can I install a 215 x 50 series tire on my 17" 2004 SVTf stock mags? The stock size is 45 series, but I would like a little taller tire even if I have to go to a 205 x 50 size. However, I am concerned about the tires scrubbing or rubbing because they are too big.

Has anyone had any experience with the 215 x 50 x 17 tires?

Thanks,
ncfazer

As long as you have not dropped your car and have the stock springs, you will be just fine. Just wondering why you would want taller tire?

yeah if your not dropped you should be ok.

and a 205/50 will be the same height as 215/45. the second # is a % of the first which makes up the height of the sidewall. so 215mmx.45=96.75 and 205mmx.50=102.5 which only makes a 5.75mm difference in height.

if you went down to a 205 width a 55 aspect ratio would give you a taller tire which would be the real difference you are looking for

You'll rub. When I bought my car it had 215/50/17's and it actually rubbed much worse than I do right now even though I'm quite low with 225/45s. It wasn't to the point where I was worried about damaging the tires but it got quite annoying.
