I was wondering what line output converters people used to hook up a sub. I have been looking around and there are a heap of different types, from very simple to overly complex and expensive. Do you have to match it with the system you have or can you just use any old converter you want.

The LOC's I have seen are 2 Channel. How would this work with a Mono Amp?

Is it good enough to just run the LOC off one of the rear speakers or is it better to run it of both so that fading does not effect the level of the sub? If so are there mono amps that can take the Left and Right signals and sum them to come up with one signal for the sub. I came across a LOC that could do the summing and then output identical signals on both channels, but it did not have the remote turrn on signal, dammit otherwise it would have been perfect.

this is what i usually use http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=5964
any will work i prefer adjustable to control the input signal to the amp. allows more tunabilty. but for the average person any will work. run it off one of the back speakers hook both positives from the LOC to the positive speaker wire and both negative to the negative. no need to hook up to both rear speakers for a mono install. if you were using it for mids and highs then the install would be different

It seems that a lot of people just hook off one speaker. Is it always the rule that base is equalized across the left and right channels, What happens if low freq signals are different on the left and right channels it would sound funny, right? as which ever channel is not going into the LOC is not going to get picked up by the sub. Is there anything wrong with running the extra wires from the other speaker, I assume that you want to use shielded cables to cut down on interference.

Another question, what size sub did you use I can't make up my mind between 10 and 12 inch. I don't do rap mainly Death Metal but I do like 80's and a lot of 70s stuff as well. I don't think I want to use a ported box I want punch over boom so I'm gonna go for fully sealed box for a tighter response. Fear Factory and Slipknot have insanely fast kick drums.

the signal to the both rear speaker are the same. no need to run off both but it wont hurt if it makes you feel better
