i did a search and didnt find alot of answers pertaining to the svt's, they make so many intakes for the regluar focuses but not for the svt's i know k&n aem and steeda make short rams, but from what i read on this site is that short rams dont give much power and little to no torque, and when its hot the dont give power cuse of the hot air. then there is the aem cold air intake, good power but a chance of sucking in water, when does it suck in water on the highway at 65 of if u splash through a puddle? does the air bypass valve help to prevent this? what if you put the k&n filter bag over the filter? how many people still run the aem cold air with out problems? where does the filter hang in front of the tire? up in the fenderwell? how does it get so wet? im sure this has been asked before but i cant find a answer so id like to know please thanks alot guys.[:D]

I use a sock on my K&N filter for my Buell. It hangs off the side of the motor completely exposed. Although I don't ride in the rain that often, I have been caught out in the rain. Once I put the sock on, I just left it there.

I'm still looking into the AEM cai. Short rams probably wirk well if you get a ram hood, I thought about going that route as well, but suppose during heavy rain it would have the same issues.

You can always go the DYI route..........I made my own with a Cone Filter, MAF adapter and a shop vac hose kit (for the CAI part) from Home Depot. It's basically the same type of setup as the DCAF Intake that is available from B.A.T. (that's where I got the idea from). and is more of a hybrid CAI than the AEM which I tried first but later sold(see potential water ingestion and C.E.L. 's for myself and other members of this board AND others ), for example. It's turned out to be an excellent setup that rams cold air from the lower front grill and can be removed in minutes for returning to stock if you are worried about warranty work with the 'good ol' boys' @ FORD. If you need more info about how I did it, just PM me or post back here. I pretty much built the whole thing for 40-50.00 if that helps and the G-tech says 5-6hp gain. Seat of pants impressions are that low end bogs have gone away (still feather the clutch when launching) and improved power over stock intake in the upper RPM's as the DSI engages at 5 grand. Maybe a bit off topic but I just thought you should know other potential options........

thanks for the reply 02 foci, why does the aem cold air throw cel's and as someone posted that i can get a shield that mounts under the car to protect it form getting wet. do you think that would work? thanks

Dude there are a million threads about intakes for the SVT seriously Depending on what u want the AEM CAI is favored by many Also the new Steeda Intake sounds pretty good Im also looking at the K&N Typhoon I would probably go with the Steeda or K&N

the k7n and steeda are short rams, which i have read on here the gains are not that great, and in hot temps they suck, the steeda looks just like the aem and k&n but says 7-10 hp gain how can this be with the same design? alot of people got good gains from the aem cold air ans thats what im intrested in getting power for my money.. thanks alot

Crap I live in Houston and if it rains here it FLOODS I almost stalled my car out the other week I can't imagine what would have happened if I had the AEM CAI

just to let u guys no because no one has mentioned this. ray at myfordperformance.com has designed what is probably the best protection for those of u with the aem cai

That piece is pretty nice I have to admit, some ingenuity there.

We dyno'd some SVTF's with AEM intakes back about a year ago and they showed decent gains.

I have heard and read good things about all the intake systems for the SVTF. I have read and heard bad things more so for the AEM CAI than any other, and I'm running one. This seems to be a very debated issue concering the SVTF with aftermarket intakes. I've read that the location of the MAF sensor is the important key on a aftermarket intake.

my problems w/aem were only because of the severe use cycle i put it through. in street driving not a problem even in heavy rain. and my car is probably lower than any of yours. again, aem problem was worst on hot track days (ambient 90 plus) under severe use. hard street driving could never duplicate it. (well you could try, but you would be arrested!)

gary not trying to be mean but you don't know Texas rain most insurance companies have left houston do to how bad of flooding we get I almost stalled out in water the other day its very not fun the water gets high up to the doors

didnt take it that way. i am a voracious reader (4 newspapers a day) and have seen the pictures. also have a stepdaughter in austin. still waiting for car to get back from race shop to try the steeda.

what do u mean by it was the worst on hot track days ? what did it do?

heat

w/hot temps, oil temp goes way up on track, thinning oil. makes it easier to puke into catch can. pre catch can, on a race weekend at summit, i sucked enough oil to kill the mass air and tp and was a no start.
