Sort of. It runs a self diagnostic when you start the car. If something appears wrong it throws a check engine light or malfunction indicator lamp. To find what that light means you have to have the code scanned by an OBDII reader. Autozone, O'Reilly and possibly a few other parts stores will do this for free.
