First post and new to Focus world. Purchased a 2002 Focus SE with 2.0 SPI and out of the gate I was impressed with just how well taken care of the car was. Found it on a dealer lot locally so I didnt get the privilage of knowing the cars history other than owner who had it before me.

Anyway did a mileage check from the first tank and it was 18 mpg with 50/50 mixed driving. After some digging through this and other forums and found that i should be doing better so I did a few maintenance things to help.

Replaced the following:
Air Filter (K&N)
Fuel Filter
Plugs
Wires
Coil
02 sensors (both)
Clean Mass Air Meter

After a tank of gas my mileage jumped to 32.2 mpg. Holy Cow!!

Good job man, glad you got that worked out.

My SPI probably needed all of that as I wasn't getting very good milage either.

Well if you need to order parts I suggest www.rockauto.com
They have the cheapest prices and a huge selection. I got all Motorcraft stuff and compared it to other sites and they were hands down the cheapest. Plus you can search the internet for coupons and they have one that is a 5% discount that washes out the shipping charges.
