Ok my car has a weird idle, souds like it wants to die but doesnt drop below 800 RPM's.

When the idle drops to the point where it sounds like it goin to die, the light behind the odometer gets dimer.

Is this normal or could it be a bad alternator?

Could just be that because the alternator isnt spinning as fast so its not producing peak power to fully power accesories.

I agree with willybos
I agree with you and willybos, as the engine is slowing the alternator is as well therefore its not pushing enough amperage back to the battery and therefore things are getting enough power in your car. Does it do just intermittently or all the time or when its cold? is it had to turn over after it has been sitting?

1) Is your car completely stock?
2) Has it ever had the factory "reflash"?
^^^This one:

It was meant to cure most of your "ailments".
Though, most members around here will recommend to get an aftermarket tune to really fix it.
3) How many miles?
The battery and alternator could be getting weak at this point.

I'd start off by checking all the wiring connections and grounds to/from the battery first.
Also, check the connections and wiring at the alternator end.
