When I left work today got in the car and I pushed the button to start. Got a click and nothing(cant remember if dash lights lit). hit it again and the dummy lights lit(for sure). But nothing except the lights not even a click. I was in a bit of a panic here for a few seconds.

The only thing different about this and every other time I started in the past is I had my foot on the brake for about 4-5 minutes before I pressed the button as I was looking something up on my phone.

When I tried again with my foot still on the brake it popped up on the screen to press the brake to start. So I released brake and pressed it again and(shew!) it started no problem. It has started fine 5 or 6 times since, so hopefully it was something about my foot being on the brake so long while sitting there on my phone.

Has anyone else see something similar?

When the car is awake, there is a 'ready-to-start' process that the car goes through before it will actually start. (recognized key present, brake applied, shifter in park or neutral, etc)

I just did a highly non-scientific test, and it sounds like the transmission goes back to sleep after about 3 minutes, even with a key inside and the brake applied. While the dash lit up, the car wouldn't start. It wasn't until I let go of the pedal that the message centre said 'apply brake to start' and then it was fine.

Sounds normal to me.

Might have just been a fluke. The models that require a key to start have this feature where you don't have to hold the ignition switch in the start position until it starts. You just flick the key to the start point in the ignition switch then let it go and the engine will crank until it starts. I had one instance where it just kept cranking so I turned the key to off and without even waiting tried starting it again. Started right up. It was weird.

Not a start issue, but a couple weeks ago I had the first "glitch" with my car in 45K miles - on the freeway, and an 18-wheeler popped in front of me - hard on the brakes for a moment, and then upon acceleating again, it's like the drive by wire lost it's connection and while the car would hold speed, it would not rev like normal. Drove to an appointment, shut the car off for about 45min, came back out, and all was well.

No issues since.

Sounds like the brake-over-accelerator may have triggered. There's a failsafe routine in the PCM software to keep it from turning into a Toyota.

Interesting. With ask due respect for Toyota drivers, I'd prefer to maintain full operation, thank you. Besides, I thought ask available data from the govt investigation pointed to driver error. Not unlike the Audi problems of a generation before.

I have had this issue twice where it wouldn't start,just kept trying and it would eventually start after about three tries.

Have you contacted your local dealership about this, zak404? I recommend doing so. Also, please fill me in with your model year and a current odometer reading; I'm happy to look into some available options.

I have had it happen at 30000 km and 60000 km , my warrantyis over so wouldn't trust a Ford dealership with it now as I they tend to rip you off.

I understand where you're coming from, zak404. If you do decide to take it in to a dealer for diagnosis, please let me know, and fill me in with that information.
