What are you guys doing for weight reduction? Ideally, I'd like to get it down to about 2200 and it's 2620 as it sits now (without driver, base model zx3)

I'm thinking of replacing the drivers seat with a kirkey and getting rid of the rest of the seats, spare, speakers, carpet, etc. I don't mind cutting things out either since mine isn't a daily at all. I don't really want to go full lexan on the windows just yet. Maybe when I do the v8 swap down the road I'll do that as well.

I can't get a cert with mig welds on chromoly so the cage will be mild steel. Since that's heavy, I'd like to take out more than I put in.

Ideas?

Not sure, I had the spare tires removed with the battery in the back w/ driver and 2/3 a tank of gas at 2822 lbs. I am around 180 so 2642 with a 2/3 tank of gas.

that correlates with your 2620.

I have done a complete gut of the interior but have not weighed it again.

You can go with a light weight battery. You can remove the rear wiper motor. Remove the dampening material. I might have a weight in May / June time frame when I get my car back on the scale when at the track.

Yep, I plan on removing all of the carpet and sound dampening material.

Good idea about the rear wiper motor. I didn't even think about that and never really used it anyway.

That Procharger also weighs a bit. It has to go, I can swing by and help dispose of it for you since it has hazardous materials and oils I can take it to the dump for you...

Wonder for the rear brakes if you could get a rear spindle, clamp / terminate the brake lines to be only front brakes. that would loose a bunch of weight if you got rid of the rear brakes (guessing still drums) you could go to a spindle and get a spacer made to mimic the drum / rotor. and just not have a caliper and rotor. Is that allowed? If properly stopped plugged or what you want to call it you should be able to terminate the line with out it going to a caliper or piston.

Well' if you are cha$ing weight $avings and need rear brakes:
MABK'3504 - Massive Brake System Components - Massive Hardcore Racing Performance Parts - Massive Speed System - Ford Focus Specialists

They claim nearly 6lbs lighter per corner for an upgraded setup vs drums.

ICWUDT [drinking]

I had to take it back off to do some other things, but it's sitting there waiting to be put on or sold.. whichever comes first. The short block isn't even broken in yet (maybe 600ft of driving and very little idle time) so there's still time for me to decide which route to take. I can't even start the car until I find a new header. But you're right, the blower sure is heavy...

I need the rear brakes for launching so they're a must. I do plan to switch to discs at some point but not quite yet. Once I get the interior stripped out I'll see what's safe to remove. I'll also weigh it afterwards to see what difference it makes. I'm thinking seats, tire, panels, carpet, deadener, etc should be well over 100lbs. Oh, and I can take out the airbags as well since I'll have a 5pt harness installed with the seat/cage.

rear brakes for launching? or for the burn out box? Thinking about it now if you have drag radials you likely go through the burn out box instead of around it. So you will need the rear brakes to get the front to spin.

Or at least a small part of the brakes. I am sure there is a way you can reduce the weight and a smaller thinner rotor.

Chase and Tom were the ones who introduced me to it. Basically it helps preload the suspension when you're about to launch. I think there's post somewhere in this section about how to do it. Oh, and it's easier on the dogbone mount as well.

Good catch! I have full tubular suspension on the mustang and didn't even think about it on the focus. Thanks!

Two piece rotors, aluminum calipers vs cast, & a bsd removed almost 20lbs + the rotational lbs.

We run a 05 zx3, fully gutted, 8 point cage, all glass, 2.0 Duratec and cross the scales 2575 with 1/4 tank and 200 lb driver. Going to do the glass to lexan, no hood release just pins and same for the rear hatch. Oz wheels 15x7. 11 pounds, we start the car with 7 lb Braille battery.

Y'all running the stock dash? I'm thinking of fabbing up an aluminum one once I get a spool gun.

The undercoating under car is often worth 75 lbs. Or used to be anyway. There are steel beams in the doors that can come out. One can commit to only one window working to dump door weight. I myself used to GO to drum brakes to save weight.

I used to strip 2 seat true AMX with 390 or 401 V8 from 3350 down to 2800 lb. and nothing major cut or could be viewed as missing in car at all. The cars passed state inspection all day long.
