So how does everyone go about removing them for painting?

I don't plan on removing. Just using lots of tape.

I just painted mine last week. Removing them is easy, open the hood and stick a 1/4" drive extension or screwdriver in the square hole under the nozzle and pull back on it and they pop right out.

I've thought about doing this before, any one have a picture of it done?

How do you block off the part where the fluid shoots out, just wedge a tooth pick or something in it while painting?

Definitely just take them off. Sniper Focus is right, a flathead screwdriver and some patience and they pop-out. Pop the hoses off first though and put some tape under the holes so you don't spray into your engine bay.
