Hello,

I've recently purchased a Focus that acted as a business car until its sale. The owner originally had decals on both sides of the vehicle that were letter shaped. The uncovered paint faded and its possible to make out the lettering that had been on the car. Is there any way of removing the letter shadows via machine polishing? Is it possible that after time the darker areas will fade slightly faster than the lighter areas?

How old is the car that you bought? If it's the one listed in your info block, a '13 Sterling Gray, I'd be surprised if the paint had faded that bad. It may be an accumilation of dirt and grime around where the letters were. Either way, a light to medium compound machine polish would certianly help the look of your paint, without question.

As a less positive response, if it's an older car where the paint has faded and under the lettering is still close to the original color, you're not likely to get that fixed without a repaint. Although a compound polish is still an inexpensive experiment BEFORE painting.
