I am just trying to figure this tuning thing out...so correct me if i'm wrong.
the flash tuner is a hand held scan tool much like the dtc reader that you plug into the diagnostic port and load preset programs into the cars ecu to change the way it controls the action of the eingine.
Now my questions are,
do you have to have presets loaded into the tuner or does it come with default setting??

A tuner and a tuning device are two diffrerent things.

A tuner is someone who makes the tune file for you. He will adjust, fuel, spark, shifting points, idle rpm, etc. etc. All of that will be in a file format.

The tuning device, i.e SCT Xcal 2 or 3 (which is what you would use), is what the file your TUNER made, is loaded into. From this point the only thing YOU will need to do is plug the tuning device into your OBDII port and follow the instructions on the screen to program the vehicle's ecu with the tune file your tuner wrote for you. You will not need to make any changes or presets to your tuner. Once you plug it into your vehicle, it is automatically locked to your ECU code and stores the stock configuration, in case you should ever want to return to stock.

Hope that helps.
