Car: 2002 Focus Se, Manual iB5 transmission, SOHC

Symptons:
-Grinding/growl coming from passenger side that is louder during
acceleration
-Louder when cold, and tapers down to barely noticeable when hot
-noise is louder when going over bumps or through dips (sound is
pronounced even when hot)

What it is not (I have already replaced these!):
-Drive axle
-Wheel bearing

Please advise what this problem might be!

Thanks in advance!

I am stumped to be completely honest. It sounds like a pulley or maybe your harmonic balancer is on its way out but that wouldn't explain the fact that it goes away as the engine warms up.

What is spinning freely? The lug is and its not coming off? You are having a problem with the stud it sounds like. See if you can tigten it up really tight with a lug wrench and try taking it off again.

when the car has a cold start, the noise is very prominent when not in motion, but after the car has been moved and comes to a stop once again, the noise is much less. From then after the noise is predominantly heard while moving and is not noticeable while stationary. I will probe around with the stethoscope some to see if that can narrow it down for me. Thanks!
