Same thing with my car, these releases fail often. You might have to buy a new piece but before you do,

Try popping out that triangle piece and you'll see like a contact, take a rag damp some break cleaner, contact cleaner, carb cleaner and wipe it on gently and wipe off. Put it back together and see if it works.

If it doesn't then you need to take a trip to Ford like I did

Mine had a little white plastic piece inside it that broke. I went to a salvage yard, grabbed a new one, and it has been working fine. Salvage yards should have plenty of replacement for a much lower cost than new.

If anything, check if your battery wires/cables arnt loose. [scratch]
