Ok guys/gals, I'm relatively new to the forums and i've seen alot of people whinging about how ordinary Ford U.S and it seems no one knows much about what Ford Australia is doing at the moment. So allow me to enlighten you.

Ford OZ's top seller here is the Falcon, i'm sure alot of you have already heard of it, but these cars are by far the most fun you can have with your pants on. The models start at around 30 grand (Aussie dollars), which i guess is about 20 grand US and this comes with a 255hp V6. The prices I'm giving would be much cheaper in the US im sure because Australia has massive tariffs to protect these relatively expensive locally produces cars. The range topper is the XR8, with a 350hp 5.4l V8, this is around $35000 USD.

More info can be found at:
http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/ContentServer?cid=1137385365703&pagename=FOA%2FDFYPage%2FDefault1024&c=DFYPage

Then there's the second line of Falcons, these are engineered and built by FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles), and these things blow your mind. The Falcon GT is the most popular, holding a ~400hp V8.

If a V8 doesn't quite get you going, there's also a turbocharged intercooled 4.0L V6 called the Falcon F6 Typhoon, packing around 400hp again, and masses of torque (550Nm).

On top of the above cars, there's also a 'ute' variant, or truck as you'd probably call it. It's basically the same car but with a tray instead of rear seats, which means less weight on the back wheels, and given a rear wheel drive car with 400+hp, well need i say more. All FPV models are around the $50,000 USD mark (Again this would probably be much cheaper in the US, i'm just doing a direct conversion)

More information and pictures of FPV cars is at http://www.fpv.com.au/index.aspx

These cars, from the base model to the GT and Typhoon, are outstanding in almost every aspect, and deserve the market domination they have. With rear wheel drive and impressively efficient, and powerful engines, they're a brilliant drive.

My question is, if a group of guys who watch cricket and proudly drink far too much beer can design, manufacture and sell a car like this, to a population infinitely smaller than the United States, why is Ford US releasing car's like the 08 Focus and this new Taurus 'thing'? Someone over there needs to do something, somewhere, pronto. [poke]

ford needs to get there thumbs out of there butts and release those cars over here. I see the ranchero and the falcon. Gm is realizing it too they brought the Holden Commador over here has the GTO they also have a El Camino there too but its called something else. I guess irony that ya'll would still make all of the cool/good cars and we get stuck with front wheel drive peices of crap. And they think americans want these crap cars too. they could'nt be farther from the truth. Also did you know the borespacing on the 4.0l falcon is the same has the original. Interesting fact that I know but thats the only thing it has in common.

you guys also get the true second generation Focus and its tasty ST version, lucky bastards! you also have the Fiesta and its ST version too, right?

Ford in this country doesn't know how to do anything but make trucks, endless versions of the Mustang, and try to compete with Toyota for the most boring car company in the USA...

I posted this about a year and a half ago. I have always said that the US should have the balls to bring these cars over as GM did the Holden as the new GTO.

not only that but there avaible with the 5.4l unlike ford of america who is afraid to put that motor in a car ..well if you count the very limited edition mustang cobra R but still they were afraid to put it in any other car. I wonder what a Crown Vic would be like with one in it?

No new mustang here, we get the old mustang cobra, it's probably a '99 model or something we're still selling. There are a number of private importers that sell the new generation Mustangs but the conversion and imports costs, on top of the import tariffs and government charges take them up to the same price as a BMW 335, not realistic unless you're a diehard fan.

We get the new gen Focus, which is a surprise because we didn't get the MK1 from the UK until late 2001 I think it was, I drive the MK2 zetec and it's good fun, I'd love to have a burn in the XR5 (or ST in the UK) with the Turbo 5cyl volvo engine, but the fact that I'd be a 20 year old in a turbo hot hatch means i'd be paying a truckload for insurance.[eek]

We get the fiesta too, but no sign of an ST yet, or an XR4 we'd probably call it. I don't think there's much of a market for hot 'micro' hatches here like the Fiesta ST, the VW polo GTi is turning into a bit of a flop, great car though it is.

I've been promoting FPV for a while on here now, ever since I saw a Falcon GT and a Tornado F6 when I went on vacation in Australia. Petition to Ford anyone?

If Ford is anything like GM, they'd take the Falcon, make some design 'tweaks' for the US market in the form of massive hideous nostrils and a fat mother grill, and then wonder why it isn't selling so well. (ala Pontiac GTO). It was the simplicity of that car that made it such a hit here, it was a subtle, stylish, sexy machine, and they shat on it.

Well just as pontiac did with the holden monero, they do it again with the new holden commadore. Check out pontiac.com for the new G8....its hot.

Yea I've said this before, with the decline of the crown vic which will soon be dead, ford needs some other rwd v8 4 door. Especially now that pontiac is coming out with the g8 and chevy will soon come out with another impala. Chyrsler corp has the charger and the 300c. So ford needs something, but most likly they wont bring it over here, cause they're stupid. Unless I'm buying a mustang, I wont be visiting ford for any cars.

Each to their own i guess, the one shown is the CV8 so it's the base model, if you want something more extreme the GTS is obviously going to look better.

And yeah the G8 has done the same thing, again i'm not a fan at all of the Pontiac corporate grill they've whacked on our baby. One Billion AUD (800,000 USD) went into the creation of that car, and the local critics have rated it incredibly close to perfection, why change it?
