2001 zetec manual
I've had a rattle when idling, at the outside end of the transmission case since i bought the car, 100,000 ago. No change in the noise but i'm curious.
It sounds like a loose drive chain that is used on older motorcycles.
What's in there? Is there a diagram I can look at, an adjuster screw or something? or are there only end bearings/bushes that may be worn/dry?

Guess without hearing it I couldn't be certain. But I'd say it's the normal "gear rollover" sound of our trans, they are just loud by nature. If it's lasted 100,000km (I assume being Canada) I'd say it's nothing to really worry about.

I have also heard that if you replace the fluid with the newer recommended fluid that they quiet down some, thicker fluid and more "cushion".

yes that seems to make the most sense, after seeing a few exploded diagrams i realise what it should be.
I'll do the fluid change, that will make a simple comparison right there on the spot.
Thanks
