I had the exact same problem in my old 95 Escort. Did it till the day it died. Mine jerked harder as it warmed up.

This may be a good time to drain and replace the transmission oil.

Although, after reading your post again my bet would be a bad motor/transmission mount.

Does it worsen after the car has warmed up?

Ask them to let you test drive a new Focus so they can show you that it is normal. Or just go to another dealer with better service. Or, assuming it is still under warranty, call the Ford 800 number to complain.

Mine sort of does that too. Not all the time, but I notice it alot when I'm slowing down to stop. Usually I'm going pretty fast so I wondered if it was just because I was stopping so suddenly.

But it'll often jerk around 30mph when I'm accelerating too.

I wondered if it was transmission....but I think I put it out of my head because I'm in denial :)

"hmm my tranny oil looks fine to me."

Appearance can tell you it is bad, but it cannot tell you it is good. I believe the Ford interval is to have it changed at 30,000 miles.

an automatic?

How long since the transmission filter/fluid was changed?
Yes, automatic.

And uh....promise not to yell? :)
I'm not sure I've ever had it changed.

I think I just need to preface all my posts with "My parents never taught me about car maintenance, it's not my fault!!"

My dad always says that once you open things up and mess around with them is when everything goes bad.
I'm scared. :)

It may have been changed once, because I think they thought I had a leak or something...maybe.

I hereby swear that with my next car I will do all suggested maintenance at the recommended intervals.
