I need some help from everyone again.

My car seems to be using too much gas. I bought the car two weeks ago. The owner says that all the tune is up tp date and that the car is working fine.

Well problem #1 the car has P0420 in the service engine soon light.[mecry]

Thanks to everyone that helped me here I found its the Cat that needs to be replaced.

My car only has 72,000 miles its a 2001 ford focus Zx3.

What other things I can do to improve gas milage?[scratch]

Should I do the tune up all over again?

I filled it up Friday and today Tuesday is little below the middle.

I do not hit the gas on every stop light.

Also I keep the RPM below 2,500 light someone suggested here.

Help please.[headbang]

Thanks

Well I guess I am comparing it to my Ford Contour I had before it was a 1998 Ford

Contour V6 2.5 L DOHC and I used to pump $35 for 1 .5 weeks worth of gas. This FoFo I

have to pump $35 for 1 .5 weeks and its 4 cylinder I do not understand. The main

reason why I sold my contour was to save money on gas and it seems this one is using a

little more than I expected.

maybe find out what the previous owner did for his "tune up". and then do what he neglected. air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, clean MAF, PCV, oil change with proper oil, etc. there more, but thats whats off the top of my head

Well figure out your miles to the gallon and dont go by the gauge. And gas prices have gone up and down like crazy. Figure out your miles to the gallon and then divide that by cost per gallon and you will have cost per mile if ya wanna go crazy. But how much ya spend a week at the station isnt really an exact science.

Ok. I did the tune up on the car. Wow the air filter was dirty. The sparkplugs where

really dirty on the top where the porcelain part goes it was full of like brown dust, But

now here is the problem. My car now kinda idle a little rough. I bought the motorcraft

pregap plugs. I do not know really how a rough car runs. All I can tell you is that it sits

on the same RPM as before like an 8 but at the same time I can hear the engine louder.

Next this weekend I will do the Fuel filter to see maybe is also a little clogged.
