If I wanted to turbo and run between 12-18 psi of boost on my SVT and have no mods right now, how much would it cost me to get it set up right?
Thanks

honestly all said and done anywhere between 5-7 grand depending on whether you can do any of the work yourself

you can run 12-18psi on the stock svt motor with 93 oct. john has proven that. the amount of boost you can run will really depend on the turbo that you use. but for the most part you can make 3-350whp on the stock svt motor with a GOOD tune and be fine.

just get you a turbo kit, a good dyno tune, injectors, mafia, j&s and you will be happy with what the svt can do.

I would give an estimate of around 5 to 6 grand to do it right. i would say 4 to 5 for the turbo it self.

and 1 to 2 to build the engine up
Seriously? Maybe I'm just a cheapskate, but I'd think it could be done a whole lot cheaper than that. My guess to do it right, as long as you can weld and do all of it yourself, would be 3-4K at most.

My estimate on having my turbo build done here would be around 2700-2800. If you want to do a budget build you need to hit criagslist and ebay alot and find good deals. Also I found a guy that will mandrel bend and weld up all my piping and downpipe for around 500-700 and he said he was over estimating. Either weld up the piping yourself or find someone that does good work for a reasonable price like the guy that's doing my piping.

I'd say more like $7k to do it right...

boost gauge, boost controller, turbo, intercooler and piping, exh mani, down pipe, orp/high flow cat, catback exh, wideband 02 sensor and gauge, J&S knock sensor and gauge, oil pressure gauge since you're going to be tapping the oil pan, Clutch and flywheel, gauge pod and everything for the wiring and tubing to the pod and loom to protect it and keep it from loking like arse, wrap for the downpipe and orp, and then a dyno tune which may include an xcal2/3 or predator...

So which one is faster, your STI or you tSVT? Do you think the SVT motor will last a long time on, say, 15 PSI, or could one suspect that longevity may be affected by long-term use of boost?

my engine is built and running 24psi. the sti gets tore new ones trying to race my focus.

but on a stock svt and say a 28rs 15psi and a good 93oct tune would do you good and last a long time.

if you are looking at a comparison between the turbo svt and stock sti motor. they can actually make around the same power reliably. the sti can make 400whp but that is the limits. the svt's can handle 350whp+. the drive train in the sti will take more of its power so the motor can hold more.. but not much with out a build. the sti however will not even struggle to make that power once it is build, it could do it with its eyes closed and the svt is pushing hard to make it. the sti is definitely a better car for racing, but the focus is just cool to beat people with. Tom made 723whp with nitrous and there are members making over 800whp on just boost with the sti, the motor just flows a lot better.

at a race as long as you arent stopped you could beat one on 15psi. lol
