I was planning on buying some type of winter tires for my car this year,but as my previous thread mentioned,I found out my back summer tires are trashed. I don't have money to buy two complete sets of tires. Does anybody make a tire that would be good/decent in snow and bearable in summer? I am not a performance driver,so not much hot rodding going on. How much more would the winter tires wear in the summer since they probably have softer rubber compound?

If you stick with cheaper "studdable" type snow tires summer wear won't be ridiculous, the more expensive ice traction types like Blizzaks, X-Ice etc. of the studdless variety have the softest special Winter compounds and wear quicker - even in Winter use.

My old P/U gets limited mileage use now, and when both sets of tires were worn out I went to cheap snows year round.

Save your two good summer tires, by next summer maybe a pair to go with them will be affordable.

I was thinking the same thing; they label them as "all-weather" instead of "all-season". But he said he couldn't afford 2 sets of tires, so he might not be able to afford 1 set of Nokians. [histerical]

But seriously, I used their Hakkapeliitta R's for winter and they were great.

LOL. Well that is true. These are the ones I used to buy. They were normally a bit over $150/tire for my Ford Probe:

But these look interesting. While not a winter tire, I would trust an "all-season" tire from Nokian more than any other brand.

Nokians can't be beat.

That WR G3 looks like a great tire for the purpose, true winter rated yet good all year.

Simpletire.com also sells Nokians. (EDIT: Allegedly. It looks like they have lots of things "in stock" that most other places don't (including discontinued tires)... so hopefully they're not lying.)

Check junkyards or pickaparts for tires. Bought 2 nearly new tires for my wife's corolla for 50 plus tax. Worth a shot calling around.

I suggest you just bite the bullet and buy 2 sets instead of one all purpose tires.
