I just bought a Ford Focus LX (feb 2000) with a SPI 2.0 liter engine. It has run for 49.000 miles. I don't know anything about past maintenance.
When should I replace the timing belt? It is vital that it doesn't fail while driving.

Tanx!

Thank you so much. I found out about the non-interference character of the split-port engine. And it has run for 50K miles now. So I do not have to worry for the next years!

The only trouble now is finding the right lightbulbs for the headlights! HB2 U. Hard to get in Holland. Must ask my sister-in-law, who just bought a brand new FF, to take me some on her next trip in june.

I hope this is the only peculiar thing about this American build car. Not to mention the hook! That had to be imported from the USA as well.
