So I get my f2 header today and after wrapping it I decide to let it dry while i take the old one out. I start looking in the back and I see an evap canister, "thats weird" I thought. Then I check out the manifold and I have that silver bar across the top. Looking online it seems like that is only on pzev models. Well I check my vin again and it has no PZEV, just a Z. No breather tube on the old intake either (got a fs cai now and no cel or rough riding). No mention of pzev anywhere on the car emissions sticker or anything. Car originated in NC, what the heck is this crap doing on my car.

evap canister I believe is on any car it soaks up the gas fumes that build up in the tank. May be wrong but that's what I thought evap canisters were or are those chorcoal canisters [???:)]

I thought evap was only on the pzev. Granted I doubt I'll ever really notice the 1hp difference, just an unwelcome surprise. Off topic but could Ford have made the engine compartment ANY smaller. I almost have to take everything out to change anything. Maybe when I move the battery to the hatch area it'll look a little bit more serviceable. Heck I wish I had a zetec for the room.

Z = PZEV

the silver bar on the top is from the air pump that injects air during startup to warm to catalyst located in the stock exhaust manifold.

you can just remove that and leave the rubber hose that connects to it hanging, it is a completely separate system that does not affect your engine at all.

don't worry [thumb]

its not about the HP, its about the extra steps necessary when modding haha

and yes, VIN code Z is 2.3L PZEV

Ah, so I guess the breather hose didnt come out till 05? Figured the vin would have mentioned it though.
If you mean that second tube that connects to the intake right before the TB, you are correct, that came out around 2005.5 - 2006.

N = 2.0l Duratec
Z = 2.3l Duratec

Does not differentiate between PZEV and not.

finding out I've got even more emissions stuff wasn't the highpoint of my day, but atleast I can pollute all I want on my 67, don't even have to go through safety inspections, no cats, nothing but an engine/trans and gas tank.

yes, its harder to mod. it starts out with less hp, but is really restricted by the head. almost need to replace the head if you want to make any power.

Sorry, same head as non-PZEV STs.

Restriction really just comes in from the air filter (which all have), manicat (which all have), and the ECU tune. The biggest issue is moding and remaining emissions legal, depending on state.
