03 ford focus SPI 2.0 single headcam. the temp. gauge does not stay mid of the gauge. It is always little bit closer to cold side than warm side even after driving 40 miles. No engine light is on. any idea?

Temp gauges are just a rough estimate of the engine temps and some variance is to be expected. Is this something new or has the gauge always been in that location?

You can use this method to check actual temperatures, gauge stays "near" center for a wide range of actual temps..

Yes It has been doing this since quite long time. After the tech replaced the thermostat housing. Questions: I suspect he did not put the term. stat back. If thermostat is not in housing is the gauge still gonna show anything? will it still show what it is supposed to be? will it still read something and put it on the gauge on the dash?
second question: If there is a leak from therm. housing may this cause the problem I am having?
