Been having the temp. gauge needle rise to 3/4 on the gauge (sometimes touching the white line near the red!) and then fall back to the middle during highway driving at 75-80mph. Thermostat is opening at 211, and the high fan comes on when on the highway...that shouldn't happen, I assume?

The dealership couldn't figure it out at all...they said the temp. fluctuations were "normal for a Focus". Keep in mind, I am at 5000ft. above sea level (CO), and the temps are average in the 80's. The dealership tech hit the engine block with an IR thermo, and it read 220-230 on the block, after a 20min highway test drive.

There is no air in the coolant lines, and I even added some Water Wetter.

Anything to improve (or stabilize) the temps? I've never had a vehicle that has such large temp. fluctuations on the gauge...kinda worries me! Maybe a rad. flush is in order? It does have a new radiator....

Thanks for any suggestions!
