Has any one installed a lower temp t-stat? like 180 or 160 degree? Any plus or minus?[:(] [8] [8)]

A thermostat rated lower than the factory thermostat will richen your fuel mixture a bit at the expense of gas mileage, increased exhaust emissions and dirtying your oil faster, not to mention you'll probably have to replace your spark plugs sooner. I've read that a cooler thermostat will keep under the hood temperatures a little lower, meaning cooler/denser air, but to me it'd just be unnoticeable performance gain, if any at all, and it's simply not worth the potential drawbacks.

You only need a lower thermostat if you've significantly increased the engine's output, which generates more heat and requires the thermostat to be open for a longer period of time. On a stock or nearly stock engine it won't do anything, and as stated above will actually lower performance rather than raise it.
