I have installed the SVT rear brakes on my ZTS (part of the ford racing rally brake kit.) I ordered the Russell SVT brake lines which are a two piece rear lines. I understand the svt has a length of hard line somewhere on the rear that the lines attach to that my car does not have. Fabricating the line is not the issue, location and length is. If anyone can take a picture of the rear brake lines on their SVT focus and give me a rough measurement of the hard line I would appreciate it.

I believe there is a fitment issue w/the brakes lines when you install disc brakes in place of the rear drums..they are too short. I'm not sure if the Russell ones will address that issue, but F2 makes their own SS brake lines and they do address that issue. Let us know if the Russell's fit. Nice conversion though!

I know that I can get the russell's to work, just would like to know what the stock svt rear brake lines look like, how they are routed and the location and length of the hard line that I assume is mounted to the lower arms. I will try to take pictures of the lines once I install them so that others can see the final results.

yea, the lines that come with the rear disc brake conversion kit are a bit tight, they work, but i myself didn't really like that. Although I', thinking of getter perportioning valves, and i think that will put some slack in the lines. If i step on my brakes real hard my car can skit quite a distance when my wheels lock up, so i want to make the stopping power a little lower in the back.

i have the exact same problem and another post actually on it but this one seems much more revealing. i haven't bought the lines yet so what kind i get is still up in the air. what are these f2 ss lines? they really high dollar not really worth the money or what. if they address the issue right out of the box and no fabrication work required then its for me. im not a master fabricator by any stretch

doesn't anyone think the back brakes brake more then they should? i think i need perportioning valves.


i read my last post, i really shouldn't drink and post.

I've got the Russell two-piece rear SS lines on my ZX3 with the SVT brake conversion. The lines will reach, but I had to slightly bend the hard line where it attaches to the flex line at the front of the trailing arm in order to have a little slack in the line. I've had no problems with it otherwise. Oh, and I've been running that set-up on my ZX3 for the last 20K miles. If you'd like some pictures of it, I'll see if I can find some from back when I installed them.

I still would really like to see pictures of a stock SVT rear set-up. I am planning on putting something together tomorrow night to get it to work, and I will post pictures of my solution. Just would be nice to see where stock svt setup has the hard connecting line mounted.

Ok I installed my braided lines on my car a couple weeks ago. Took me a little while to get around to posting the photo's. Just happened that the day after I made the pieces to make it work an SVT focus came into the shop. It already had braided lines on it. I took pictures of it as well to show what the setup is suppose to look like. I basically just copied the path that the single rubber line takes that comes with the svt rear brake kit for my car.

This is the route that the rubber line that comes with the SVT rear kit takes:

I made up a couple of hard lines to connect the two pieces of the braided rear brake line. They are just under 3" long and have a bubble-flare on both ends.

Connecting the two lines together makes it a little longer than the rubber line but it works well:

Once installed on the vehicle it looks like:

It is working great on my car. Had I taken a look at the SVT focus setup before I had already made up my lines I might have tried to follow the route that it was intended to go. However my way is definetely easier. Hope this helps anyone who had questions about the installation of the two piece setup on a vehicle that did not come equiped with the hard line.

Russell braided stainless steel lines. Part#693370. It is for the SVT focus or anyone who has put rear disc brakes on their focus.

do you think your going to need prop valves since doing the swap to disk brakes. I'm thinking about it myself, seems like a little too much breaking in the rear.

I did the SVT brake swap back in 2004. I also did stainless lines with mine at the same time.

1.) No need for a proportioning valve, they work just fine
2.) 20-30% better braking than stock, nice improvement over stock for not a fortune, plus you can still fit 16" rims for winter tires on the car ( I do).

I don't have ABS or traction control EITHER... Learn to apply proper pressure to the pedal...I'm not trying to be cruel, I'm serious. I HATE ABS with a passion, I could have bought my focus wagon with rear disks, but it came with TCS and ABS and I didn't want it. So, I exchanged my drums with a full SVT set-up.

I don't mean to be cocky, but our cars don't stop that hard. You need to work on pedal modulation... I roadraced for 12 years, and when I started to the time I stopped, I learned ALOT. That doesn't mean you need to go racing, but trust me, the focus doesn't need gadgets to make it stop well, all those things are a crutch.
