Hey everyone, I'm new here and have been reading up on the svt header swap. You guys did a great job on it and i was just wondering where it would connect to the stock exhaust system. I just want to get that on before i make a full exhaust for it. I go to the University of Northwestern Ohio, an automotive school and im studying the high performance degree they offer there, so i have a full fab shop and welding room (and chassis dyno)at my disposal, i just want to know what im getting myself into. In november i will be getting cam gears and will be able to tune my car on the dyno and ill have 2 weeks to do it and ill be there 5 hours a day. So ill give you guys dyno runs to show my progress. Thanks!

First welcome to the forums!! Has for the SVT matching up to the stock exhaust it won't. The flex pipe is different and you need a SVT specific exhuast for it to work. I'm not saying you can't make it work there have been plenty for make it work I just don't know whats involved. Oh and Cam Gears really wake up the sleepy zetec it was the best mod next to the header. It made the car feel like a different animal. I have TQ everywhere and I have top end power where there was none before.

I have the flex pipe, i guess i'll just have to fab something up at school in the next few weeks. I'll take pics and keep you guys updated. I still need to sand blast it (bought it used) and wrap it. I just hope its not super loud, because i can't stand all the automatic civics and integras at school with fart cans and steelies who think they're car is the shiz. Thanks guys!

Please just stop. If you don't know what your talking about then don't suggest things. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but please just stop. This is how come soooo many people are confused about it.

You CAN use the stock Zetec Flexpipe with the SVT Header. You just need an ORP/Hi-Flo cat in it's place. If you take a look at McNewsAutomotive.com that have the SVT Header Kit and the ORP or Hi-Flo Cat option that will match up to your stock Exhaust. If you want to, you can get the SVT Cat and SVT Flexpipe as well, but possibly need a different Cat-Back. Again, since you have access to a full shop you can and should be able to make it work with the stock Cat-Back. Refer to this thread for 'most' of your questions:

i'm going to be tackling this tomorow.

i have the header, and SVT ORP, SVT flex, SVT oil dipstick, SVT powersteering line, and EGR block plate. I have a regular zetec exhaust so I'm expecting to have to drill holes (or i'll try get my hands on a milling bit and just slot the holes)

Thanks for the info! I read every conversion guide i could find and got alot of good info, just that part of hooking it up to the stock exhaust system part was a little shady. Will it bolt up before the sub-frame where the rack is? I just want to get it done in a day or two max. I have all the gaskets and the dipstick tube.

yes they both will meet up in the same spot (at the cat-back). Just depends on which route you go with.

The difference between a SVT Cat-back and a non-SVT cat-back is, the Flange that meets up to the flex pipe (the SVT's are slightly bigger) and the SVT Cat-Backs have a built in Resonator.

thanks for all the help guys! Does anyone know what the size and pitch of the manifold to head bolts are? I just plan on using the bolts we have at school because we have a whole room of them for free. Thanks!

hey Saps, welcome to FF community! im no sure where you at on this thread but, you can use your stock everything but you will need to cut and fab up a section for your Cat. its about 11inches long. and the gasket on the header is what you will need to cut out. and same for the rear of the cat ( the beinning of the Flex pipe)

I've been doing this for the past week or 2. I thought getting a RT Cat was exspensive so i got some mechenic at work to make me a gasket for the header to Cat . and they did just that. I also got a Magnaflow cat. for 90 bucks... and on that alone im saving about 210 on the cat alone. Im also using a zetec 2.5 inch Flex pipe. instead of switching and trading for a a svt flex and cat pipe. because why switch it since im fabbin up some stuff anyways? just a couple more thing to do...

I thought the svt flexpipe was 2.5, because i have one and its definitely smaller than the stock. If i only have to fab up an 11 inch piece of pipe it should be pretty easy, especially with all the resources at school. I just dont know how im going to seal the connections temporarily until i make a catback. But like i said i don't want it to sound like some douche bag's b18 honda automatic, thats my big issue.

yeah i clearly under stand.... hmm... if you can make the gasket for the SVT header to Cat, the 3 bolt one, that be a head start. next get a pipe. so it clears the flex to cat. you can just use regulars pipe for now... (maing it into ORP like pipe). if your going to upgrade you flex pipe to a 2.5 later on, then you have the choice to cut the stock flex and weld the extra pipe straight to it along with the 3 bolt. that will take care of the gap. but if your going to do that, and get all the fitment settle first tho, mind as well throw in a temp. Cat in there... (cheap one) and that will take care of the sound part. but if you don't put the o2 sensors in your going to be throwning a light with it.

+ with all the tool and toys you got at your school, it shouldn't take to long to do!
Just get the 2 gasket made. 3 bolt and 2 bolt. a pipe about 14 inches long( couple inches to play with) to get the size and direction of the pipe settled. then a cat and it should take care of the whole thing right off the back. and then you can make your exhaust later on.

that 11 inch pipe. im only saying 11 becuase that is what you need with a zetec exaust setup(header to flex) with no svt parts beside the headers.

i got my parts ready to go and get welded now. im just waiting on a friend to bring his mig over and im go to town with it. ill take picture for you tomorrow of how im doing it, and what i got so-far but it gota wait till after i get out of work.
