yea..pretty sure its just the name of the motor...has nothing to do with anything technical..

ps. i think ford just thought it sounded cool and pasted the badge on our motors. Go figure.

Ya i think it's just a name for the motors....it has been in the ford family for a couple years...it started with the escort and the low base contour....and now they have it for the Focus[:D]

Good question. I still thought it had something to do with the valve timing.

wow.

whoever said gas mileage and engine speed described somewhat of the goals of the vtec.

its goal is to have decent peaky power for when u wanna get on it but also maintain good gas mileage for when u dont. id go into it in depth but im not sure how much would be sponged up. do a search or try www.howstuffworks.com

zetec is just a name

vtec is variable valve timing, basically the cam changes at a certain rpm to make the lift bigger and get more flow thru there when u need it. the intake cam on the svt has the same thing but a different way of going at it, the vct. The zetec is just a 4 cyl motor, straightforward and basic as it gets. Nothing fancy or overly complicated. I think they made the name to sound like something cool, like vtec. ha.
