02 SVT, 53k miles. Driver side front fender appears to ride closer to tire than passenger front side. Getting a slight rub when I hit larger bumps.

Other than obivous signs of failure (leak, bend, etc.), anything in particular I should look for?

If I replace front struts, what part provides best balance of ride/economy. Factory or aftermarket? I do not want to upgrade. I'm happy with factory ride and handling, and I'd like to maintain what I have without paying an arm and leg for factory parts.

Thanks for yr help.

Look into some KYB GR 2's. These are an excellent OEM replacement shock and are less than an arm and a leg (pinky finger and toe?). Its rare that a bad shock would cause or create a rubbing problem since they do not control ride height (that's the springs job), however, on a big hit they could let the spring compress enough to allow the tire to touch the fender liner. The shock would have to be "completely" worn out for this to happen.
