I have a 2001 ford focus and have been having trouble with the radio. All it seems to pick up is static, it searches but cannnot find any stations. It is an old tape player one, and the tape still works fine so there is no problem with the speakers. Strangely the only time it work is if it is raining hard when it is able to pick up the stations. Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the arial but this made no difference. Any ideas??

You might want to take the dome light assembly apart and check where the cable meets the antenna base and see if there's any problems there. And also pull the radio out of the dash and double check where the cable goes in. Otherwise, it might be time for a new HU.

Also check if your antenna got hit. Mine got caught in a car wash and it broke something inside of it cause all I got was static, and my antenna wouldn't stand up. Put a new antenna on and good as new!!!
