Yes it can! You use whats called a line out converter. Or you can buy an amp with speaker level inputs. Both of them take the signal from your speaker wires.

This is what I have for a sub and I'm using the speaker inputs . It was a pretty easy install and the sub comes all the wire you need. Except for the power wire .
This is the powered subwoofer :

This is the wiring kit :

Yes!!! Go to circuit city or best buy. Ask for a Line Output Convertor(LOC) it should run around $30-$40. Tap into your rear speaker wires. Then you have your RCA's. Wire the rest of the amp normal and you are good to go!

i would look into something that boost your bass output level i went to a local sound audio shop it works awsome to filter lows and highs from the sub so you get the good bass sound u want instead of the full frequencies

Question it was mentioned in this thread to connect the LOC to the rear speakers , can this be used if the rear speakers are in the door, if not are there any alternates? with out having to mess with the head unit?

Yea you will put the LOC behind the stereo. You will need to find out the colors of the wires. Then you will tap into them. I believe there is a thread telling all the colors. Just search for it.

And welcome![welcome]
